Summer Safe!

Staying Safe This Summer: Key Takeaways from the DAC ERT Summer Safety Webinar

Today, I had the opportunity to attend the DAC ERT Summer Safety Webinar, an incredibly informative and timely event focused on keeping our loved ones safe during the summer months there in Metro Detroit. With the weather heating up and outdoor activities on the rise, the advice shared during this session couldn’t have come at a better time.

The webinar brought together several local experts including a fire chief, police chief, veterinarian, and a pool safety agent—each providing valuable tips on how to navigate the unique challenges that come with summertime in their region.

Highlights from the Event:

🔥 Fire Safety Tips

The fire chief spoke about the increased risk of house fires and wildfires during hot, dry spells. He stressed the importance of:

  • Keeping grills and fire pits at least 10 feet away from your home or any flammable materials.
  • Never leaving an active grill or fire unattended.
  • Checking smoke detectors regularly—especially if you’re using fans and air conditioning units more often.

🚓 Community Safety

The police chief shared insights into neighborhood safety during summer months, reminding us that:

  • More daylight often means more foot traffic—and sometimes, more crime of opportunity.
  • It’s essential to lock car doors, garage doors, and be aware of your surroundings during evening walks.
  • Keep emergency contacts and family safety plans up to date in case of severe storms or unexpected events.

🐾 Pet Safety in the Heat

One of the most appreciated speakers was the local veterinarian, who reminded us how vulnerable our pets are in the heat. Some great reminders included:

  • Never leave pets in the car, even for a short period.
  • Walk dogs early in the morning or later in the evening to avoid scorching pavement.
  • Provide plenty of fresh water and shade if pets are outside.

🏊 Pool & Water Safety

The pool safety agent wrapped things up with essential water safety reminders—especially important for families with children:

  • Always supervise children near pools or lakes—never rely solely on floaties or toys.
  • Install barriers around home pools and ensure gates are self-closing.
  • Learn basic CPR and teach kids to swim from an early age.

The webinar was packed with practical, potentially life-saving information. Whether you’re planning barbecues, heading out on vacation, or just relaxing at home, staying aware and prepared makes all the difference.

Kudos to the DAC Emergency Response Team for organizing the valuable event. Let’s all do our part to make this a safe, happy summer Every Where!

Traditional – Non Traditional Enlightenment

1. Start with Morning Intentions

Set the tone early:

  • Ask: “What would bring me joy today?”
  • Use a simple mantra like: “Today, I choose peace and presence.”
  • Even 5 minutes of quiet reflection, prayer, or meditation can shift your mindset.

2. Practice Gratitude, Even in Small Doses

Joy grows where gratitude lives.

  • Keep a gratitude journal (3 things daily).
  • Look for micro-joys: warm sunlight, a good laugh, a kind word.

3. Simplify Your Focus

Joy often hides under clutter — physical, mental, or emotional.

  • Reduce multitasking; focus on one thing at a time.
  • Say no to obligations that drain you unnecessarily.

4. Move Your Body

Even 10–20 minutes of movement — walking, stretching, dancing — can spark joy by improving mood and circulation.

5. Connect Genuinely

Joy multiplies in connection.

  • Send a kind message.
  • Be fully present in a conversation.
  • Hug someone (with consent!).

6. Create Something (Anything)

Creative expression invites joy.

  • Draw, write, cook, build, play music — it doesn’t need to be good, just real.

7. Accept, Don’t Resist

Joy isn’t the absence of difficulty — it’s the ability to feel grounded through it.

  • Accept what’s out of your control.
  • Name your feelings honestly; joy often returns after emotional truth is acknowledged.

8. Be of Service

Helping others creates a deeper kind of joy — one rooted in meaning.

  • Offer a compliment.
  • Volunteer or support a cause, even in small ways.

9. Laugh (Even if It Feels Forced)

Laughter physically shifts your body chemistry.

  • Watch a funny video.
  • Play with a pet or a child.
  • Don’t take yourself too seriously.

10. Sleep and Rest

Lack of rest erodes joy at the foundation.

  • Prioritize consistent, quality sleep.
  • Allow downtime without guilt.

Bonus: Joy ≠ Constant Happiness

You’re allowed to have off days. Joy isn’t a performance — it’s a state you return to, not one you force.

My Ode to a Hard and Deferred All things you find enjoyable and satisfying while alive..

1. The Myth of Deferred Enjoyment

We’re often taught (explicitly or implicitly) that joy is something that comes after the struggle:

  • “Once I finish school…”
  • “Once I get that job…”
  • “Once I retire…”

This mindset can condition us to normalize endurance and postpone joy. We start to believe that suffering is a rite of passage — or even a requirement — for happiness. But the truth is, if we don’t learn how to find or allow enjoyment in small moments while enduring, we may never get to that part at all.

2. Fortitude Becomes an Identity

If you’ve had to be strong for a long time, you might find yourself living through your strength, rather than living your life. That toughness becomes how you navigate the world, and over time, it can crowd out softness, vulnerability, and yes — joy.

3. The Risk: Surviving Without Living

If fortitude becomes the focus, you risk staying in survival mode — mentally, emotionally, even spiritually. You may be getting by, but not fully alive. And there’s a quiet grief in that.

4. A Necessary Shift: Endurance + Enjoyment

It’s not that fortitude isn’t valuable — it is. It keeps you going when things are hard. But the goal is to make space for both:

  • To know how to endure, and how to enjoy.
  • To allow yourself peace without guilt.
  • To build a life where survival isn’t the only goal — where presence, laughter, rest, and joy are not luxuries, but essentials.

A Thought to Hold Onto

“You didn’t come here just to be strong. You came here to be alive.”

What would it look like to stop proving how strong you are, and start letting yourself enjoy the life you’ve survived?

Body and Spirit…Mental focusing fortitude

In a world that never stops buzzing, our minds can quickly become cluttered. Between deadlines, notifications, social pressures, and inner dialogue, it’s no wonder mental clarity often feels like a luxury. But what if it wasn’t? What if clarity could be a daily habit rather than a rare moment?

What Is Mental Clarity?(not to be confused with initials of anybody or anything else)

Mental clarity is the state of having a focused and clear mind. It’s when your thoughts are organized, your goals are in view, and your decisions come from a place of calm understanding—not stress or confusion. It’s the opposite of brain fog: that sluggish, indecisive feeling that creeps in when we’re overwhelmed, sleep-deprived, or over-stimulated.

When you’re mentally clear, you:

  • Make decisions more confidently
  • Feel less anxious or reactive
  • Focus better and longer
  • Experience more creativity and productivity

Why We Lose Clarity

Modern life is a minefield for distraction. Between multitasking, poor sleep, and constant exposure to media, it’s easy for our minds to become scattered. We also lose clarity when we ignore our basic needs—like nutrition, rest, and emotional expression. Add in an overload of choices and unending to-do lists, and you’ve got the perfect storm for mental fog.

How to Cultivate Mental Clarity

1. Start With Stillness
Even five minutes of stillness can help reset your mind. This might be meditation, deep breathing, or simply sitting without stimulation. The goal is to create space for your thoughts to settle.

2. Prioritize Sleep and Hydration
Clear thinking begins with a well-rested and nourished body. Poor sleep and dehydration can mimic the effects of cognitive disorders. Don’t underestimate the basics.

3. Declutter—Physically and Mentally
Clear your space, and your mind may follow. The same goes for mental clutter: journaling, brain-dumping, or talking to someone you trust can help you release what’s weighing you down.

4. Limit Digital Noise
Try digital detox hours, turn off unnecessary notifications, or take intentional breaks from your phone. The less your mind is pulled in a dozen directions, the easier it is to focus.

5. Get Clear on Your Priorities
When everything feels urgent, nothing is. Take time to define what actually matters to you. Write down your top three goals each day—and give them your best attention.

6. Move Your Body
Exercise isn’t just for physical health—it increases blood flow to the brain, improves mood, and helps you think more clearly. Even a walk can shift your mental state.

7. Practice Mindful Consumption
Be intentional about what you read, watch, and listen to. Your inputs shape your thoughts. Choose content that uplifts, educates, or inspires rather than overwhelms or numbs.

Mental Clarity Is a Practice, Not a Destination

There’s no finish line in the pursuit of a clear mind. Clarity comes and goes, and that’s okay. The key is to build habits that bring you back to center when life pulls you away. Whether you’re navigating a big decision, stuck in overthinking, or just trying to find some peace, a clear mind is one of your greatest tools.

So pause. Breathe. And remember: clarity isn’t out there somewhere. It’s within you—waiting for a moment of quiet to speak.

May Something thoughts….

they way they align i was only getting mail delivered with paycheck.. only equaled mail 2wice in a month.. you know thats unfair.

then when i blog post.. they all start doing things in opposition to what i post.. like with that mentality.. if something was operating with bodily functions.. that person only breathed when if.. he chewing, then at same his eyes had to blink.. so he would not be alive in order for that to function delivery of mail, because he was not chewing and digesting at the same time.. seee. this why.. what we studying aint got nothing to with paycheck, bank, families, what we eating for dinner, what the moon look like. who was in acting in background or in front the camera, which video sza was covered in blood in.. none of that.. or your food brand.. or who bought me a drink last friday..

you know what makes me upset.. that someone swipes everyday @ 9pm with the same stupid bank that get on everyone elses nerves foreal. and then says it should half.

but wait re write with chatgpt..

they way they align i was only getting mail delivered with paycheck.. only equaled mail 2wice in a month.. you know thats unfair.

he way they operate isn’t right. I was only getting mail when my paycheck came—so basically, just twice a month. That’s not fair.

Then, when I make a blog post, they start doing things deliberately against whatever I say. It’s like they adopt this backwards logic. Imagine if a person’s body only functioned under certain conditions—like, they could only breathe while chewing, and could only blink while digesting. That person wouldn’t survive. Just like that, the delivery of mail can’t depend on whether I got paid or not. It makes no sense.

This is why what we’re studying—or trying to focus on—has nothing to do with paychecks, banks, families, dinner plans, what phase the moon is in, who was acting in a movie scene, what video SZA had blood in, what brand someone eats, or who bought drinks last Friday. None of that.

What really gets under my skin is knowing someone’s out here swiping their card every single night at 9 p.m. with the same annoying bank that frustrates everyone else too—and then they have the nerve to say things should be split in half. That’s the part that really pisses me off.
